Splash screen during boot

Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to display a splash screen instead of the kernel messages that are printed out (I am running RH7.3). I don't want anything complicated, just a logo of some sort. Is there any way to do this?

Get the penguin logo: 'vga=769' boot option. If you want more than that you'll have to recompile your kernel.

One thing that wasn't obvious, at least not with SuSE configuration, is that after bootsplash is set up, if you want to change the theme you'll need to run mk_initrd before the new settings will take effect. The output of mk_initrd will also verify whether the resolution you've chosen will work with the theme.
I spent a whole day trying to figure out why my new theme wouldn't work.....

Thanks guys. I was fooling around with the stuff from Bootsplash.org, but couldn't get it to work. I did not run mk_initrd though, so perhaps that was the problem. I will give it another go shortly.
