Here are my problems: I cant get sound or microphone to work, and I cant play a DVD on my Redhat Linux 9 computer.
The sound Problem: I ran a soundcard detection test, and got the following results:
Quote:
Vendor: Via Technologies Model: VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller Module: via82cxxx_audio
Then I ran the sound test, and I did hear that guitar sound come out of the speakers, so It seemed like everything was working fine. Then I started to play a CD, and the the CD player program showed up and started to play my CD. The problem was no sound was comming out of my speakers. I looked at the volume control and all the sound settings were turned up. The sound for games and other media dosn't work either.
The MIC Problem:I cant seem to get the MIC to work. Its pluged in the write spot, and its turned up in the volume control.
The DVD Problem: When I insert a DVD in my DVDrom, nothing happens.
For your DVD problem, you put DVD into your DVDrom then you play it using mplayer or xine or ogle or videoclient. Of course you have to set /dev/dvd point to right location.
For your sound problem I would recommend alsa driver solution. Just install alsa-driver, alsa-utils, alsa-lib, alsa-tool. Search for their rpms in you want an easy instalation in Redhat CD or internet. If you cann't find, you have to compile sources. It is a little bit tougher.
I have the same problem with the microphone although my speakers seem to work. I do get sound to come over the speakers when using Alsa and speaking into the microphone. But nothing seems to go out with skype or get registered when I try to record with K Rec. So, it seems like the microphone is going to the sound board but not to the motherboard.
