slow root logon

I have four SuSE * Enterprise servers running MySQL. Three of them, I can log into quickly and test my ODBC connections quickly but on the fourth server, both the root login and the ODBC connections are slow and the IVR connection is almost intolerable. I have checked some of the log files but as of this date I been unable to track down where the delay is occurring. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas as to where to start researching the issue. It is very frustrating. Thank you so much for your kind and prompt attention.

It's probably a good idea to give some explanation about the network layout, and any network tests that you have performed. If the servers are located in different places or use different hardware then the poor performance might not have anything to do with the distro or MySQL.

Assuming that the systems are identical, I would start by using ping to eliminate the simplest possibility - slow link or bad cabling.
