Shrinking a LVM partition

Hi,

I have a system that has / as one big LVM partition. I want to make this LV smaller so I can create some new partitions. Does anyone know of the best way to do this. This is a live system, I can have downtime but I don't want to break something and have to rebuild.

thanks
