Sendmail - I know nothing....

I'm completely new to Linux but I have it installed (RedHat 9.0) and have Apache and a few other things working (with virtual hosts and 3 websites - pretty cool). Very general question about sendmail: If I own domain names is this something with which I can create email addresses, have email forwarded to standard email clients, etc..... For instance I bought a 10 per month webhosting package (hmmm....don't really need that anymore). I can have 25 email accounts as part of the deal. Is this, essentially, what sendmail can do? This is probably a very stupid question but I'm old and, well, fairly stupid. I know I should read the O'reilly book (which I may do, when I have 60 bucks to spare). I'm not really looking for any sort of technical answer as I understand that sendmail is quite involved. Thank for any input...... Hope this is posted in the correct forum.......geez.

Sendmail is a mail-daemon, this means it's a kinda program to send emails around the web. So if you've got a couple of email accounts at an hosting company, your local sendmail-daemon hasn't anything to deal with it. Hope you understand it a little, by the way, take a look at http://www.google.com/linux and search for sendmail. Succes

I appreicate the response but I thnk you misunderstood the question. I know that sendmail on my Linux box has nothing to do with my web-based email. Put another way: with sendmail, can you create your own, valid email addresses (from which you can send and receive email)? Thanks again.
