screen cap script for video files

Is their any script which does screen caps/montage of video files?

I found a bash script called 'Video Contact Sheet' but its way too buggy to use. This script utilizes mplayer, ffmpeg and imagemagick (montage) to create the screen caps and joins them all together using montage automatically.

In what way is it "too buggy"? Or: how could the functionality of this script be improved in your opinion?
