Saving settings?

I can setup my network and stuff on my text-only RH9 server by running setup, but when I restart, all the settings are back at what they were before. What can I do to make these settings permanent?

have you tried manually editing the files as root and saving the changes? i believe the files you'll need to edit are

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

possibly a couple of others, it's been a while since i ran redhat, so i'm not sure if there are a couple of others.
hope that helps.
good luck.

Whoa, that looks like that's it! What should I add to the file to open up port 21?

dealing w/opening and closing ports, should more than likely be handled by your firewall. have a look at this.

https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/...ecurity-guide/

good luck.
