root and grub password

Hi all,
I have a receive a box from an entreprise. This box containts critcal database. But the sysadmin don't know the root password. I know with grub, it's possible change the root passsword by booting in single mode.
But the problem is, to edit the command line , I need a password (grub protects this line with a password). I'd like to know how to solve this problem

Best regards,

If you have a rescue disk you can boot up with that and then edit
/etc/passwd best to make a copy of it first. REmove the text between the first 2 colons.
You can then boot up with root=/dev/hdan where n depends on your root partition.
reset your root password
edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and rerun grub not probably strictly neccesary.
I hope this has given you a few pointers.
