Repairing Windows from Ubuntu ?

Hey,
I have a dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger and I was having these power fluctuations that kinda affected Windows, strangely NOT linux. When i boot into GRUB and choose Windows it shows the Blu screen with "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" but Ubuntu works fine once loaded.

I was contemplating on using the Win XP cd and the repair utility {using fixboot} to fix it, but im unsure as to whether Windows is going to rewrite the Boot partition thereby screwing GRUB. Is that true ?

I would like advice on what i should do fix the boot partition without affecting Ubuntu and GRUB.

Thanks

Since ubuntu is derived from Debian this will probably work. You can test it first.

Boot from the install CD. Get "More Options" probably by pressing F1. You should find a "rewrite boot sector" menu entry.

If you do then you can let surly old Windows have it's way with the boot sector, then use the install CD to rewrite the boot sector.

This definitely works with Lilo. As far as I know it should work with Grub too.
