Rename Files With Date Picture Taken On Command

What I have is a lot of pictures, about 2k, and I would like to rename them say: Picture1.jpg, Picture2.jpg ... But starting with the first picture that was taken. Can I get a command that would read the timstamp of the picture, and then tell it to sort them from 1 to 2,000?

Thanks for any help as usual!

There are a few places where you might get the date from:
  1. The files last modification date on the filesystem. This will likely be the time the photo was downloaded from the camera to your computer, or the last time you copied the file to a new device/location. Hence it's probably not ideal.
  2. From EXIF meta-data in the image files. This is probably the best option, assuming the camera you used to produce the images sets it, and has it's clock set correctly!

I found this program, which looks like it will do what you want, renrot. It'll also rotate images which have an EXIF tag to say that this should be done.
