Question Reiserfs gives system block error

Hi,
i am running SuSe 10.0 on Reiserfs. for somedays now i am unable to boot into Suse, during boot the system goes into the text mode tries to run scan gives error 6 and says that i need to run scan manually. i have tried the reiserfs tool and it says that i have system block errors. i searched on the net and found that reiserfs can not correct errors in the system block and the system can not recovers.
is this correct will i have to reinstall suse or can i somehow recover my system??
thannks in advance

Have you run reiserfsck with the rebuild option?

If you have, did you let it finish? Reiser will give errors if a reiserfsck check is unfinished and it will become unbootable until it finishes.

I had done this and really screwed things up. It would not start properly after I did this and had to reinstall. You might be lucky and it will work properly after running reiserfsck under knopix.

MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP ALL IMPORTANT DATA PRIOR TO RUNNING REISERFSCK!!

Since you currently have an unworkable machine, it would not hurt running reiserfsck on the drive to rebuild the superblock.

You must run this from a live CD. I recommend knopix and do not mount the dev in question.

Be sure that you make backups while in knoppix of any files on the corrupted drive (if possible).

Good Luck
