redhat9 runnivg VERY slowly

Hi,

I have redhat9 installed on my desktop PC. The problem is that it takes forever to do anything. Opening OpenOffice sometimes takes well over a minute. The same can be said for other smaller programs such as calculator. The System Monitor does not show me anything that could be causing such slowdown and the PC is more than capabale of handling redhat in terms of hardware. Anyone have anu suggestions on how I would invesitagte this matter more?

to speed linux in general u must close any services that u dont use and use hdparm to speed up ur hard disk by adding DMA and other things and i noticed when i installed my graphics card driver it speedup a bit

...and if you don't want to mess up with all that, go for Yoper Linux

Did you correct the DMA (if necessary) and eliminated the unwanted services?
If so, you could try prelinking, compiling from source the essential packages
(like libc, xfree, kernel for your architecture), eliminating unnecessary system
consoles or replace the default ones with something lighter (like agetty)....
Well in general there's no obvious way (except for installing gentoo or yoper).
Lots of reading is wainting for ya if you want to really need to do that kind of tweaking.
