Redhat Entrprise Linux running on Sun Enterprise 450 and 250 servers

Hi,

We are looking at re-using the Sun Enterprise 450 and 250 server's but running htem off linux.

I was just wondering if this can be done and what hassles we might encounter.

The solution we offer is Oracle 11i on those 2 servers running the linux OS, and normally we have gone to new servers but the client wants to reuse if possible.

Thanks

Hi,

Believe me i know how well Oracle runs on Solaris, but the solution we are offering is for cost effectiveness and we want to be running the Linux software on the servers for Oracle.

I was just wondering if it can be done as i myself dont know much about sun servers.

Thanks for the reply.

As far as I am aware, Oracle 9i is only available for linux on the following archs;
IBM z series and S390
Intel IA64/32
AMD 64
It could be different for 11i, but there are very few distros that support SPARC. Oracle develop with Red Hat, who dropped support for SPARC in 1999 (RHL 6.2) so I would imagine that you would only have Solaris as a choice for operating system on SPARC servers.
