quake 2/3 premissions

I read on a web site while tryng to install quake 2 and 3 that they can only be run as root because it uses the OpenGL subsystem. I did a search on Google for allowing users to use quake and never really came up with much. How can this be right? I dont really want to give my brother my root pwd so he can play quake :P
anyone know of a site with a fix for it?

Well, I don't know, but last time I played Quake3 under Linux (looong ago) I THINK I was running it as users. OpenGL is available to users, just look at your openGL screensavers! But maybe I'm wrong... Anyways... try
