hello all... i'm having some problems with proftp. my setup is reasonably simple. i have a firewall which forwards any requests made on port 21 to another machine on my network which is running slackware8 with the default install of proftp. my problem is that when i attempt to connect as a specific user, the login fails. but when i attempt as one user in particular, it goes through fine.

the only thing that i can possibly think might be affecting this, is that the only user who can login without a problem is the only one who hasn't had their passwd changed lately. other than that, i'm stumped as to why one user would be able to login, but not others. all the user accounts are of the same type, and have the same permissions.

any help is much appreciated. :-)

try this may will help:
open /etc/ftpusers

if you found the login-names of those users who can't login,just remove them.
if you want to allow anonymously login just remove the "ftp" user.

killalll -HUP proftpd
