Sure!!---Just start an application.

In a terminal, run "ps -e", then start some app, then run "ps -e" again. You'll see what process(es) you started.

Any time that any program is running, Linux calls it "a process." If five copies of the same program are running, "five processes." Each process consists of one or more threads, and also owns all of the virtual memory, open file-handles, and other resources which are available to it. Therefore, the "process" is the fundamental unit of work for the system dispatcher, and the fundamental resource-ownership unit for all components of the system.
