problem with permissions


I execfute the following command as root..
akroneiro:/home/alaios/Documents/My Pictures # chgrp -R users .
chgrp: changing group of `./Desktop.ini': Operation not permitted
chgrp: changing group of `./Sample.jpg': Operation not permitted
chgrp: changing group of `./spyros.jpg': Operation not permitted
chgrp: changing group of `./spyros.psd': Operation not permitted


Why is this happening??/
akroneiro:/home/alaios/Documents/My Pictures # ll
total 419184

The group is valid
akroneiro:/home/alaios/Documents/My Pictures # cat /etc/group | grep users

Are you trying to change the permissions of all the files in a directory? If so try

chgrp -R users *

should work just fine.

I'm guessing the problem lies elsewhere.

alaios, what kind of filesystem are you working on? "My Pictures" seems a bit Windows-alike to me.
.psd files are usually created in Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop only has Win & Mac versions, no Linux ones.
So I'm guessing you're trying to access some old Win partition, perhaps a FAT32 one, which doesn't support
group ownership.

Please post the output of:

Thx a lot.. I know that the current folder is a fat32 partition.

i give the linje u are intrested in
/dev/hda5 /home/alaios/Documents vfat user,uid=1000,codepage=737,iocharset=iso8859-7 0 0
