LP, lot, a2ps, & ghostscript all print from the command line. Linuxfromscratch actually has a 'printing from scratch' hint with a script to employ GS. As long as something talks to your printer, you can do simpler jobs.

Sorry, using a tablet which auto-MIScorrects spellings. That list of programs was

LP, lpr, a2ps & ghostscript. I think all rely on ghostscript as the print engine and are merely spoilers.

... but I don't know that they would know how to specify "booklet format" from the command line. I expect that you would have to prepare the PDF in that format ahead of time.

Don't know options off hand, but you can do 1-up, 2-uo, & 4-up, that being pages per side. This bridge has no doubt been c4ossed before. Have you googled 8t?

There's a command line Word Processor called Wordgrinder. It might be worth a look. If it does have true word processor features, it should do the trick.

I haven't used it, but Knightwise, a podcaster I respect, gives it a good review.
