preparing for hardware changes
I now have two SCSI 4.5 gig drives. Windows gets one (except for a piece for /boot) and Linux gets the other. Lilo is in the MBR of the first SCSI disk.
What I'd like to do later this year is get a big DMA/133 IDE drive to replace the SCSI drives, and the SCSI card will remain for other SCSI devices (CD-RW, scanner, etc.). I can make image backups of each existing partition.
It seems like I can boot from a floppy before the final backups (which would be done through a bootable CD) and edit fstab according to the new partition plans for /dev/hda. And I'd need to change /dev/cdrom to point to /dev/hdc instead of /dev/hda like it does now. (Yes, I've got a regular ATAPI drive in addition to the SCSI CD-RW. Just to be clear.) How do I get lilo onto the new drive? Any steps I'm missing?
The other change I want to make is a better video card. In RH7.2, how do I downgrade X to plain VGA and does anything else need to be done to prepare for a new video card?
