pppd issue

Hi all !!!

I was trying to completely move from suse kernel 2.2.28 to 2.4.13, eveything runs fine except pppd. When I run Kinternet dialer it detects my modem, send ATZ command, and goes on until it starts service pppd I receive the following message:

Plugin /usr/lib/passwordfd.so loaded.
pppd 2.4.0 started by azael, uid 500
Perms of /dev/ttyS1 are ok, no 'mesg n' neccesary.
Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument
Exit.

Any idea on how to solve this problem, I can't connect to the Internet using kernel 2.4.13, that's the only thing that doesn work on my system.

I've trided to update wvdial and ppp but with no results

Thanx in advance.
Azael

have you tried the old version of wvdial? if you correctly updated the pppd module, then it SHOULD work, but i've noticed that sometimes the updated wvdial doesn't like the 2.4 ppp. wvdial 1.41 was the last one i managed to get working; it worked with both 2.2 kernel and 2.4

isajera is right. i had almost the same problem when i went from redhat 7.1 to 7.2. everything worked great except pppd. (i almost freaked! NO INTERNET?!?!?! hehehe) so i rmp -e pppd-whateverversion.rpm and rpm -e rp-pppoe-version.rpm
and then rpm -ivh old_version_of_pppd.rpm and rpm -ivh old_version_of_rp-pppoe.rpm
----
everything is smooth sailing from there

Thanx for your replies guys, but I just bought SuSE Linux 7.3 and it comes with the most recent versions of vmdial and pppd and also kernel 2.4.10-4GB which are working fine

This SuSE version rocks.

Thanx again,
Azael
