I'm wondering if anyone has a template on post server configuration.

I'm looking for something that will help document all services, config files, and scripts. This will be useful to others not as familiar to the specific configuration to work on the server.

I am developing my own list but and sure that it isn't exhaustive. I'll post my list soon and would hope that others will help me add to the list of necessary information.

I'm looking at what would you like to know about a config of a server if you were to walk up on it and need to work on it. I know lots of people have different methods of configuring a box and most of them work. This document should be able to speed up the find and seek method of becoming familiar with a "new to you" server.

Does anyone currently have a config template? Would you help me add necessary elements to my work in progress document.

These are the questions i have so far...

Runlevel?

Services running? Config files? Executable path? Howto Stop / Start service?

Programs running? Config files? executable path?

Network settings?

Extra Libriaries used? (pdflib) Config files?

Users / Groups? Permissions?

Custom scripts? Executable path? How are they being run (cron)?

Sure, where would the focal point of collection be, and what don't you already have documented?

Runlevels: 1-6 called upon by init. ex. init 5 (basic windowing system and xinetd)
more on runlevels and its files can be veiwed with 'man init' .

Services: amanda comsat echo-udp ipop2 pop3s servers tftp
amandaidx cups-lpd eklogin ipop3 rexec services time
amidxtape daytime gssftp klogin rlogin sgi_fam time-udp
chargen daytime-udp imap krb5-telnet rsh swat
chargen-udp echo imaps kshell rsync telnet
These are services on my machine, and there are plenty more than this, but this is the stock xinetd services.
These service files are to be enabled/disabled when using/diasabling a service.
And the xinetd restarted like so: /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart (or start if not already)

All bootstrap processes can be started and stopped just like xinetd.

i'm not needing a extensive list of everything on the box. mainly i'm looking for things that were are need to be customized. if a person is familiar with the default installation of RH but needs to know what extras I have added and where the config files are. this should give a nice crash course of what and where things are on the server.
