POP Mail Problems

Machine:
PIII 500 MHz
Version 1.130 (Redhat Linux 9.0)
Postfix version 2.0.16

I am using postfix for mail. I have 2 accounts that worked fine for a couple of years and now seem to have become corrupt. I can access the mail accounts by logging into usermin (web based email), but can no longer access the mail through POP. When attempting to access them through POP, the "Username/Password" screen keeps popping up even when the username/password are entered incorrectly multiple times in a row.

I checked the logs and for every time I enter the username and password correctly, it keeps track of it with the following error message in my LogWatch for mail (For privacy reasons, I changed the ip addresses and have replaced the usernames with "username1" and "username2", but there are 2 usernames with this problem):
**Unmatched Entries**
Error opening or locking INBOX user=username1 host=[192.168.1.122]: 50 Time(s)
Can't open INBOX (file /var/spool/mail/username1): not in valid mailbox format: 50
Time(s)
Error opening or locking INBOX user=username2 host=[192.168.1.123]: 34 Time(s)
Can't open INBOX (file /var/spool/mail/username2): not in valid mailbox format:
34 Time(s)

As for more information, I did play around a little with spamassassin over a year ago, but it is no longer active and the problem with these accounts just started within the past month. I read about spamassassin ruining accounts and there is the slight possibility that it is what caused the problem.

Right now, I would like to learn how to fix these mail accounts, rather than deleting them and then re-creating them. Can anyone help me through this one? What other info do you need from me?

I have a little more information..When accessing the user account via Outlook, I get the following error:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'xxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.org', Server: 'mail.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.org', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Unable to open user's INBOX', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

The password I enter is entered perfectly (I reset the password a couple of times on the server, I tried logging into usermin with the password and it worked, and I tried entering the password multiple times just to insure I had not typed it incorrectly).
