Talking Pentium 4 Experience

Hello to all. I am a new Linux user and linuxquestions member, and I look forward to participating (maybe even contributing someday) in the forum.

I recently decided to build a Pentium 4 gaming machine (birthday present to myself) for a project. My preferred distro is SuSE, but not set in stone of course. I am interested in anyone who would like to share their experience running Linux on a Pentium 4 computer (Pitfalls, recommendations, etc).

Thank you for your time.

I never thought of Linux as the gaming platform. Just a comment.

- i love linux, but i'm forced to repeat Chaos's advice - if you want a good gaming platform, then there are a few good games on linux, but you probably will want to make it a dual-boot system so you can still use the win32 games.

...on a Pentium 4...

...Linux runs sweetly!

Performance is great - I just recompiled my kernel for the Pentium 4 and you can "feel" how light Linux is on the machine.

Sound is great, and I'm using the onboard 850GB motherboard sound.

Using a geForce MX200, and using Tux Racer as a reference - there doesn't seem to be any problem there. http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/index.html

Like the others mention, the only problem you'll have with gaming on Linux is lack of available titles, unfortunately.
