Paused printer

Hi all,

So the printing just siezed up one day, and refuses to come back.
The printing software is telling me that HP1015 is Paused. And that Job 28 is in a state of "Pending: printer stopped".
Normally, I would have expected a cancel job type operation to clear this out, but it
doesn't work. Whenever I boot up (its a laptop), I get the same red exclaimation icon on the graphic of the printer.

Any ideas? I suppose all I'm trying to do is get the system to forget it ever heard of Job 28.
Any way to get it to do that definitively?

Thanks,

Declan [using ProMepis 2004 beta2, by the way, with Gnome 2.8]

Have you tried turning the printer itself off for a few minutes to see if the job will go away?
good luck.

I did

Thanks for the reply. It's true: I hadn't tried that.
Now I have, but to no avail.

Surely there's some file somethere that can be deleted, or edited, or something.

No ideas?

Alternatively, if there's a simple (stress: simple) guide to the basics of printing on a Linux system, with a troubleshooting focus, that'd be great too. I searched, and found what I found most interesting, but it didn't lead me towards a solution.

Thanks,

Declan

What system did you setup printing with? If it it was cups, you can kill it from there. Then try turning the printer off for a few minutes to let the memory drain.
good luck.
