Angry Passwd command aborting on Solaris 10


Hey gurus,

I am more of a newbie than a unix system admin.. i am executing the passwd command on a solaris 10 OS and every time its aborting (as shown below). Please anyone with ideas on how to troubleshoot this.. i would appreciate

root@osssvr-1 # passwd ftp
New Password:
Re-enter new Password:
Abort

There are so many things it could be.

First thing is what have you changed from the default install?

Can you change other users passwords besides ftp?

First thing I would try is:

# su - root

then

#passwd ftp

Does that work?

Thanks for the reply. But I have not changed anything.. In fact i am already logged in as root as you can see and it does not work as still. I am not able to change the password for any user account in the system, not only ftp.

I know you are logged in as root - I want to you su - root being root already and give it a try.

Just FYI, there's a solaris forum here. May have better luck there.
