This is kind of weird to me. My CD-ROM works as I am currently playing a CD on XMMS. However, if I should decide to change to a different CD, XMMS will not display any tracks. I've gone through the playlist editor and to my /mnt/cdrom directory (which is how I got the tracks listed for this particular CD) and it will show nothing. Also, I tried to use KsCD and it shows "ejected". I tried to use Gnome's CD Player and it showed "No Disc". This is weird, because there was a CD in the drive. I took out the CD and put the original CD back in and it played flawlessly in all the programs.
Regardless of the others, I'd like to get XMMS working properly. Now, I found that if I close X (or reboot) and open it back up, I can play the CD. Also, if I want to switch CDs, I have to get the first one playing or loaded into the playlist (in XMMS), then I can open the playlist editor, remove that CD, put in the next one, close the playlist editor, and then I can hit "play" and it starts playing. After I got it to play in XMMS, I closed XMMS, opened up KsCD and it will play, closed KsCD and opened Gnome's CD Player and it will play. Anyone know wtf is going on with this thing? I've got a workaround in progress, but I'd like to get it working "normally". Thanks!
Oh yeah, I went to xmms.org to view bug reports but couldn't find anything on it. If you need any more info I'll be happy to supply it.
I do know with xmms, once I navigate to /mnt/cdrom1 (my faster CD rom) with an audio CD, nothing shows up until I select 'add all files', then the tracks show up and the second 'add all files' does the trick. I don't like XMMS for CD playing. Like the docking of kscd.

That doesn't work either for some reason. It's very weird. The only way I can get it to work on a different CD is like I said above. What I don't get is why XMMS (which I use primarily and tried the others out of sheer desperation) would have the same effect on the other CD players. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all. I suppose I can deal with it like this, but it is a bit frustrating.

although if that's the case, I'm certain there's a workaround out there
All the CDs are original, store bought CDs. I can see what you're saying though, and that would definitely be a good thing to check for if they weren't originals.

No no...I didn't mean are they copies...I meant are they CDs that have new copy protection technology built-in?
Or are they CDs with "added" content (for example, a CD I have from Aerosmith has additional stuff when you pop it into a windows computer, so does one of my Sarah McLaughlan cds)
Any of those things could, I am guessing, screw up something when trying to be played.
I see what you're saying. My Blink182 CD when put into a windows machine pops up a video. No, these CDs don't have that technology on it as far as I know. This happens with every CD I try to play as well. It's very weird.
