RedHat 8.0 2.4.18-18.8.0 kernel
Background:
Audigy Firewire controller with Liteon DVD drive & Maxtor hard drive attached.
Hard drive: /dev/sda5
DVD Rom: /dev/scd1
I finally solved the IEEE1394 SBP2 "error logging into device" problem by taking the IEEE1394 drivers from the 2.4.19 kernel, replacing the 2.4.18-18.8.0 RH 8.0 drivers and recompiling. Made the appropriate entries in /etc/fstab.
When I boot > both the FW hard drive & Dvd are detected & mounted > with the message for the dvd rom drive: mounting read only, no medium found.
This is exactly what happens in Mandrake 9.0 also. Have no problem using the dvd rom in Mandrake.
When I try to access the dvd (with the same dvd I use with Mandy) > even with the mount command I get a message "no medium found". I have the file system in /etc/fstab set as iso9660.
Why am I getting the "no medium found" message even though the drive is detected and there is a dvd in it?????
Found the problem. I guess once I got the Firewire stuff to work it changed the designations for the cdrw & dvd drives. I realized this when I found the dvd files in the /mnt/cdrom directory instead of /mnt/dvd > put an mp3 disc in the cdrw > sure enough the files showed up in /mnt/dvd.
I deleted the desktop shortcuts > both folders in /mnt > created new ones & edited /etc/fstab so the devices were linked to the correct folders. Problem solved!
Hey Im having the same error, it says no medium found, my 1394 isnt affecting it though. I'm a little new, so i couldnt fully follow how you fixed your mount problem, could you run me through it?
You need to make sure your dvd & cdrom drives are linked to the correct device: ie: /dev/scd0 or /dev/scd1 (my firewire drive designations) . Usually you have /dev/cdrom0, /dev/cdrom1 etc: I had my /mnt/dvd & /mnt/cdrw folders linked to the wrong devices. Check your hardware browser for your device descriptions and what device they are linked to.
Yeah I already did that for the most part. I was able to mount fine before I installed Mplayer. After I can no longer mount. And Mplayer can't open the DVD
