Hello! I'm a windows user and i'd like to switch to Linux, or to try to switch. My main occupation witn the PC is making toon with Maya. I'd like to use Maya on Linux. Ok, i've tried the Red Hat 7.2 but i encountered a loooot of problems!
First: My Promise Ultra133 TX on PCI it was not recognized, so i can't install linux on my 60gb HD, but i have to use a slowly 5gb HD on my MB, ok, but it's a pitty!
Second: My USB modem (a smart-link based chip) it was not recognized, so i can't access the internet and it's impossible to use Linux without a modem.
Third: My cd-rom it's not mounted, it's incredibly, but a simple task like to read a cd it's impossible.
What a hell!!!
Ok, i think that RH 7.2 it's quite old distro, but it officially tested for Maya.
Do you know if Maya rins perfectly on Mandrake 9 or aother??
If i don't resolve this problem i think that for now Windows is the only OS that i can use for my pourpose. I hope this is not real.
Please give me some good suggestions!
