I need to download my E-mail from my Internet account on Netscape. To do that I need the Netscape POP3 mail server address

Does any one know what is the Netscape POP3 mail server address?

Try .com on the end or pop. at the begining.

Netscape webmail uses IMAP.

It is an IMAP mail server. port 143.
IMAP is an alternative protocol ( hence a different service running on a different port ) that keeps the messages on the server till you delete them and is considered by many as a better option if you're connected all the time.

I have had problems getting it to work with the latest version of Netscape on Linux. It runs fine at my work machine - Win2k though.

I tried to change the POP3 to IMAP - but I couldn't. It's a bit wierd I know.

I'll try again to change it and let you know.

OK, I changed the POP3 now to IMAP and Port 143.

There is an error message :

For POP 3 try: ncmail.netscape.com

I tried POP3 with ncmail.netscape.com

It took longer time than usual to connect, but it failed eventually with the error message.

To use the netscape mail client you need to set the account according to the information supplied to you by your ISP.

Yes;after re-reading this thread,you didnt really make clear if you were trying to forward your netscape mail account to your ISPs mailer server or just set-up your ISPs mail account with netscape.
The mail server for most ISPs is mail.myISP.net,com,etc.

Netscape offers free email accounts. They were part of what they call netscape netcenter portal and is familiar by the name webmail. Using Netscape Messenger ( think MS outlook) that is part of the communicator suite or close variants such as Mozilla I have been able to remotely retrieve my IMAP mail from the server. But lately, i have been able to do that only from my Windows based machines. I read in the Mozilla mailing list that the remote retrieval of Netscape Webmail needs an IMGlue component that is possibly not distributed with the package.

ALF, since you're opened this thread.. I have tried numerous ways to solve this issue. When you setup your mail account using 'mail and newsgroup settings' under the edit menu, and choose to setup your already existing Netscape Webmail account, 'imap.mail.netcenter.com' is what shows for the server name. But I haven't been able to resolve this machine. There doesnt seem to be an MX ( mail server) entry in the DNS corresponding to this name. This means, Netscape is internally resolving this name to another name or directly to an IP in my Win2K box, but not in my unix box. When I get a chance, I will use tcpdump or something of the sort to find out where the darn IP packets are heading to. All we need is that IP address.
