I didn't know that. I'm not fond of ubuntu. It's geared towards beginners. The point is that in good faith I paid for a computer that's supposed to be for any linux distro. You don't know me but I am not giving up. They either give me a refund or fix the problems.
I got no idea- I do not even use a printer -- good to hear you got the kb figured out, if you need help with your printer in here better you mark this one solved and post another separate question for your printer.
I know I marked it as solved but I'm back to where I started. The only thing that's not working is my printer and I understand why. Even with all the excellent suggestions I can't get it working. No biggie. I'll just print with my chromebook. I was going to try lfs but gave up on that idea. Problem is I've got a lot of spare time and I want something challenging. Any ideas?
You never got the mount problem solved and your printer is still not working on your new laptop.
Is that not challenging enough to get working?
you could then try installing Linux from scratch on your new laptop. I know that'd be challenging for sure.
you're correct but I tried for hours to get my printer working. Last thing I tried was the hp shell script but I had dependencies that weren't specific. I went to the Debian package site and everything I tried it said the package was already installed. I'm completely stumped. As for /etc/fstab you guys have helped a lot but something must be wrong because it's not working and I'm lost and I already read the information on that site. That's why I want to install lfs. It should keep me busy and I'll learn a lot. I guess I'll change my nick to hopeless
You know what I'd like to do but don't know how? Since I bought this from linuxlaptops when I open a terminal I want localhost instead of linuxlaptops. I'd also like to change from my real name to my nick. I know how to add and delete users but I don't know if that would break anything.

the thing is you never posted your results error messages and steps in what you are trying to do so others in here can see what you've tried so they can lend a hand, if possible. At least I didn't see anything of it. even with your fstab. no output from
Code:
blkid
copy paste that if you are using the right terminal. inside code blocks
along with whatever was going on with your printer error messages and such. etc... I'm sure someone has to know or be using Debian with a printer in here somewhere.
I've always used nano but I googled for the commands to copy and paste and I couldn't get them to work. Yes that's linux from scratch. I installed it years ago and it was challenging and frustrating but I like that! There is a user named iphitus tht was really big in arch and went onto kernel development. I met him when he was 15 and just starting out and got to know him well. Brilliant guy and I'm nowhere near his level but that was the first distro he installed was lfs.

like if you're using terminator or xfce4-terminal and like you can just high light the text right click in it like in windows and select copy then go into somewhere else and right click select paste.
if you have the right terminal it is
Code:
ctrl+alt+c (copy) ctrl+alt+v (paste)
in a terminal only. you can copy in the term using the three finger combo then using the two finger combo like windows to paste. But that depends on the terminal, not all terminals allow this.
