Nautilus questions !

Hi,

I've come to dislike Nautilus file manager since I started re-using Linux (both Fedora and Ubuntu). I really like Windows Explorer. Is there a way to get Nautilus to either act similar to WE or replace it with something altogether?

For instance, I need these feature in a file manager,

1) Address Bar : where I can type file path personally, instead of using mouse to click folder personally.

2) be able to change icon bar to use small icons and remove text.

Is it possible?

Thanks in advance.

You may like Thunar;

for nautilus just go to view and check the location bar.
for the icons preferences display
is that what you wanted?

Open a browser window and click Edit-->Preferences.
Address Bar: Behaviour - put a check mark against "Always use text-entry location bar"

Comprookie; I couldn't find anything different in Thunar from Nautilus. I am looking for something that seems very similar to Windows Explorer. I'll try to install it, and see if helps.

XavierP: In preferences->Behavior I couldn't find anything related to address bar. I see only 3 items 1) Single/double click, 2) Exe text files 3) Trash. I hope you are talking about Nautilus. I have version 2.20.0.

Update: Comprookie, I installed Thunar, and at least it helps me type the path completely inside an WE like address bar. That helps immensely. Thanks.

I have Gnome 2.14.3 and have hosted a screenshot of the relevant tab here so you can see what I see.

Hi Xavier, I have GNOME 2.20.1, but I don't see the 'text entry' option. I have rest of them all.

You need to install Gconf-editor to have more control over nautilus options.

Install konqueror, which is similar, of course there are dependencies from kde that will be dragged in but it is what you are describing. It's also heavy. Thunar, Rox-filer, theres a bunch to check out.
