mysql / phpmyadmin & fedora

OK,

as advised previously I ran yum install mysql-server on my fedora 3 box.

I've installed webmin, and its showing mysql databases ok.

I've tried installing phpmyadmin, but keep getting the following error message :

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

I've checked the phpmyadmin config file, its set the auth as 'config' I've got my password and username in there.

Can anyone help with this? I cant say I've ever had this problem before.

Hi,

Did you install/allow SELinux when you did your FC3 installation? (It is installed and activated by default)

There are known compatibility issues warnings, etc when running mySql in an SELinux controlled environment. I ran into a whole bunch of headaches trying to get phpMyAdmin running on a system that was using SELinux. I finally reverted to disabling SELinux and things went back to normal.

Which versions of PHP and MySQL are you running? PHP 4.3 won't connect to mysql >=4.1 without compiling it with the --with-mysql=/path/to/mysql/libs due to changes in the mysql auth system.
