Missing /var device

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I have a problem with my /var device in my Mandrake 9.0 linux operating system. Apparently, this morning i did a df command and my /var device was missing. i tried to remount it but the data that was supposed to be there was not there but in a Lost+Found directory with #124443 for each file instead of the actual name such as "spool", "mail","apache-mm",etc.. I do not understand this. This caused a major problem to my network because I'm running a mysql database and I need that device because my mysql database is stored in there. Any ideas? Thanks.

what you mean by "/var device" ?, do you mean /var itself, or something like /dev/hda5 ?

and how can you lose and device (or directory) ??? , it should be impossible (nearly) to delete those if the permissions were set right

Hi there,

thanks for the reply. I'm sorry for the confusion regarding the device. What I mean is my /dev/sda7 which I named as /var when I mount it, is missing. I don't know how that happen but it is. For some reasons, when I do a df command, the device is not there. when I do a du| grep -i var.....it shows up as 3.0 G....so I know it is there. Yesterday, I said my network was screwed up because of this reason, but something happen that I do not know of...still don't... but apparently my network is back up...and i can access my mysql database which is stored in /dev/sda7.

I can't figure this problem out! What happen to my device that i mounted as /var??? Please help. Thanks.
