Microsoft's "True Type"

I just bought a brand new HP system, 19" flat screen P4 tower. I installed my WordPerfect 8 and when I use drop down settings the fonts are hard to read. A few other programs also show screens as hard to read. The Geek Squad rep told me to go Microsoft and down load "True Type" to fix the problem. Trouble is MS does not have True Type any more. I have tried downloading other items like Clear Type and still no luck. Does anyone here have a fix to my problem ?

Just to clarify, this is a Windows question, correct?

Regardless, it's not a Success Story. Moved to Linux-General until we find out things like which distro he's using.
