Messages from /var/log/secure are disappearing

I am a root user. When I do a su login as 2 other users (bill and john in this case), the log ins get logged into the /var/log/secure file. Problem is, the messages disappear only after a minute. How do I ensure that the messages persist, even after reboot?

Check with the fuser command if an unexpected process has opened it.
