Linux vs Freebsd for embedded systems

So I was wondering, which is better for embedded systems? Linux has the high ground at the moment due to Google adopting it for Andriod, but what about Freebsd? What are they good for? are they a comparable competitor to Linux?

Thanks

Besides that there were embedded devices with Linux long before Android, I think that it is more a license issue than a technical what to choose for your device. While Linux is licensed under the GPL, so that the source code for your device has to be open available, this is not necessary for devices powered by FreeBSD.

WTF?

I'm a fan of Android ... but there are thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands!) of successful Linux-based embedded projects and systems that have NOTHING to do with Android!

I'm sure their mommy loves them

Q: What exactly are you "comparing"?
Q: I'm not sure I agree with your suggestion that "alternative" necessarily equates to "competitor"
