Linux Software on Windows?

Hello.

I have 2 questions. One is if a GNU GPL program from Linux can run on Windows (e.g. the GIMP) can I sell it to Windows users?

Another is how much of this software is available for Windows?

Oh and is OpenOffice.org covered by the GNU GPL?

There are many Linux programs that has a Windows version too. If you had looked into Gimp page >> download you'd see that there's a Windows version. It does, requires the gtk libraries in order to run, but it runs without any problems. Gaim also has a Windows version, vim, gvim, a lot of them. Even a few Window Manager has been ported over, as Blackbox...

But why would you sell it? Peoples will just download it. Gimp for Windows is like 7 MB . Either way, always check the licenses. Sometimes, the license for the same program may change from one platform to another. And above all, play fair

As far as I know the GPL does not allow you to charge for it (the software),
you may use and distribute it, but must clearly state the license.

There was a case with some router manufacturer who used IPTables/Netfilter on it and did not disclose the GPL, he got sued by the developers of IPT/NF and was forced to take the product of the market.

You are allowed to charge for the distribution medium i believe and any "add-ons" whice relate to the software, but again you are not allowed to modify the src without disclosing the GPL and leaving the software to be opensource.

Remember the software does not belong to you and therefore ...

hope this gave you some idea.

You know what, I'm trashing the idea. Didn't like it, people could just download it anyway.
