Question linux on 386 (2.4.18 suse 8.0)

for some reason i should run linux 2.4.18 on a 386 (with cpu ALI M6117)
I had complied a kernel (2.4.18 on suse 8.0) for 386 and it has no problem with a pentium (I) 133MHz but in my 386, after message of uncompressing kernel and INIT message (ver 2.82) i get this message:
INIT: id "1" :respawning too fast :disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: id "2" :respawning too fast :disabled for 5 minutes
...
INIT: id "5" :respawning too fast :disabled for 5 minutes

and repeated after 5 minutes.

what is wrong ? plz advise me about files that can clear the problem.

you can try editing /etc/inittab and adding the -L flag to the agetty lines
that will eliminate the carrier detect thing but i'm really not sure why the detection is fouling up
or if it will work.

in /etc/inittab mingetty is used.
I test it with agetty -L and get same result.
