Hold the presses! You have some stuff seriously messed up. Your post of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 says your monitor is a Sony Vaio C1. That's a Sony laptop.
It just dawned on me that the last CRT monitor I owned was a Samsung SyncMaster 763MB. Not the best of CRT monitors, but okay. Go to this link -> http://www.samsung.com/in/products/m...Specifications
and you will see the specs for your monitor.
You horizontal freq should be 30-70 kHz and your vertical freq should be 50-160 Hz. The resolution should be 1024 x 768 @85Hz for this monitor. This should work okay for you.
You should use the Samsung software in Windoze to setup the monitor for brightness, contrast, etc. and then when you boot back into Linux you'll have some reasonable idea of what you should be seeing. That software will adjust your monitor for good viewing quality without much effort on your part. If it's still too bright, use the magic bright button and change it to text mode or whatever.

Alright.. Chinaman.. my computer is a MDG desktop.
Monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 763MB.
I will try what you said, because I have the cd that came with monitor. I'll try that in windows and see what happen.

Hey Nukem,
Two things.
First, what is a MDG? I'm clueless, which isn't new with me
Originally posted by Nukem Hey you know what... I selected a different monitor type and set the colours to 24bit, which was 16bit originally. It worked.
And the jokes... some of them are just too funny..
Glad you got it working. The name of the monitor is not important, just the refresh rates, etc.
I'm wondering - can you now use your magic bright button effectively?

lol.... I usually set it at text for everything, except gaming. That's when I set internet. otherwise it's too bright. And the idea of wearing sunglass..
How many people actually wear sunglasses when they infront of the computer??

Just a guess - those with severly dialated pupils?
Don't let those posts bother you, Nukem - they might not have known how to really help you.

I installed the true colour program.
Dude, you can't just install this program to get it to work. You must run the program and properly adjust your monitor. I am assuming that you did not run the program, because if you did, the first thing you would do is adjust the monitor brightness, then contrast, and the brightness wouldn't be at 50% - if you followed the instructions. That may not be the name of the program, but there is some program to help you get it setup.
The purpose of running this program in Windoze was to get your monitor properly setup in the first place, then when you boot into Linux, you would have an idea of how the monitor should look. If you did run the program, please accept my apologies. And, if you did not run it, and it's that bright in Windoze, you should take your monitor in for repairs.
