Linux command to get the DVD label?


What Linux command(s) will retrieve/display the label on a DVD ? Thanks ..

well i was going to say lsdvd, but didn't know if they meant generic volume labels of dvd video titles. so i didn't reply. and then i did.

Using *some* linux command, I want to get the label from a DVD disc in the DVD tray. Not using any player etc.

Well, I don't think Linux has a native command to just present the label of a DVD, you'd have to use mplayer or some other player to get the label. mplayer and most others have command line interfaces, so using the correct option of whatever one you use should work.

again, what label do you mean?? all this talk of mplayer etc, would only be for a dvd video. and like i said, try lsdvd if you do mean video discs.

Might be speaking of the label name, like what you would see if you pop the dvd in a windows box and the name that appears in My Computer..
