in the linuxpoint of view there is no differnece between win98
and win2k or XP . the differnce is of filesystems.
you can dual boot with win98 win2k winxp and redhat.
all of them or any combination of them.
there is a difference as far as MS is concerned though. I recently installed XP on my machine, and it overwrote the mbr, which is fair enough i suppose, but it also completely broke my win98 install!! I reinstalled win98 (had LOADS of trouble getting it to work too!!) and still linux works after fixing the mbr
that's why I stick to win98. I don't need XP and all it's new bloat and hidden files. I use Linux for most things and occasionally boot to win98 to do some vid editing.

Just something to keep in mind, the standard 7.3 kernel doesn't have NTFS support, so you may have to recompile or install on Fat 32 if you plan to mount Win partitions, I set one partition as Fat 32 on my notebook to allow file share between Win 2K and RH 7.3.....................................
From what I have experienced, you can use the win2k bootloader rather than grub or lilo if you want to dual boot, but winXP's bootloader is not the same. I had a hell of a time trying to get winXP and Redhat to dual boot using the XP bootloader. I finally ended up just using grub and havent had a problem since.

NTLDR
Here's a good on line article that details using NTLDR instead of Lilo or Grub, I've set up a couple of systems this way but since using Lilo is such a snap I don't bother with it anymore, but it is a fun exercise so have at it and let us know how it comes out....................................
There is absolutely no good intelligable reason to move from Windows 98 to 2k or Me. Unless you are really eager to donate 100's of dollars to MS. I'm never going to upgrade from 98. And as soon as I can, will get rid of it. As soon as I finish school that is. Linux is all you need,
