How can I have both linux and windows 7 and what version of linux should I use. I tried debian but that wouldnt let me also use windows 7. please help!!!
The cleanest way? Use two separate PC's and a KVM. That's what I started out to do. But, it's my two cents. CO-operation of these two can (I stress CAN) be problematic, at best...
Besides, the needs of Linux are such that a hand-me-down wil do nicely...trust me!
I am responding to this post from my Ubuntu 11.04 (a Debian derivative) laptop which dual boots with Windows7, so its definitely possible.
Maybe try again and when you hit a problem drop us a post.
The most simple and safe way would be to install a free virtual machine. It would make your linux transition much more easy.
In fact I never install a linux OS anymore. Just no reason to for me at home. Just create a new virtual machine and run. I run everything from Mac to QNX to BeOS and more while I keep the Windows 7 for what it does. I almost never have to fool with drivers or play with wireless since windows does it all for the virtual machine.
