Linux --> ad200w3 -->ldap --> Linux is and will be my fevered OS ..

Linux is and will be my fevered OS ..

But recently I have had my doubts, as an educational institution we have certain requirements, force change of password every month, shares across a many wans’s with a central user database. The only solution I have found is using LDAP with samba. LDAP in itself is hard enough to configure, get it to work with Samaba and you’re a genius. I have gotten it to work but still….

The integration between Windows 2000/2003 and its clients (win 2000 / XP ) is unbeatable , group/machine policies, just too easy to say the least.

Will samba ever reach this?

I ask because I have just bought a number of win 2003 licenses and in the process of migrating from Linux to Windows 2003. A very heartbreaking experiences, but what options do I have.

Windows 2000/2003 AD is well too advanced for Linux/Ldap to handle for windows clients. If we where running Linux clients across the board, Windows would not come into conversation. Unfortunately I have too many users committed to Microsoft on the client-end that it has become impossible to hide samba on the backend.

Any thoughts….

A desperate Linux guru trying to hang onto what should be the greatest open-source product on the face of this earth!!!!!20
