left numeric keyboard is typing numbers (problem with NumLock on/off)

Hello,
could anybody help ?
I have a problem with
the left numeric keyboard:
it is typing numbers even that NumLock is off.
it happens in all the applications I am working with ;
mozilla , gedit,jedit , etc.

For example, when typing Home
it types 7 .
In fact , pressing the num lock does not
cause the NumLock led to be on (or to change this problem).
It is always off.
what to do ?
There is no physical problem with this keyboard (with it's numlock led) because
when using windows wiith the same keyboard everything is OK.
what to do ?
regards,
sting
