KDE Applets

In Gnome, I had a couple of handy little applets on my panel: one told me the current temperature and the other checked my e-mail every few minutes and notified me if there were any messages.

Is there a way to get the same effect in KDE? My Right Click- Add - Applet does not have anything that sounds like this, and my googling has been fruitless.

You may need to download extra applets - I do not think they are available in a standard distro's release of KDE. Sourceforge is your best bet, probably followed by one of the many KDE theme sites (don't ask me for suggested sites, I don't use KDE)
