KDE 3.0 install

I've successfully upgraded to KDE 3.0 and everything (almost) is working fine. THere are a couple of small issues I'd like to work out yet.

1. KDE Control Panel will no longer start.
2. Some, at least, of the KE 2.2 packages are still listed in kpackage. I'd like to remove these but don't know how. Checking them and selecting Uninstall does not work.
3. In Preferences..Look and Feel Some themes and icon themes are listed twice. Again, selecting Remove Theme does not work.

Has any one else had these problems or know how to fix them?

:smash:

The only option I've been able to think of so far is to wait for RedHat 7.3 and do a reinstall. I'd rather not unless I have to.

First of all did you compile from source or rpm? becuase if its rpm than many people have had problems with them. If you still have packages from 2.2.2 you CAN remove them but beware that some programs still rely on kde 2.2.2 libs and kde 2.2.2 base, but you can safely delete the other ones like kmultimedia and kdeaddons. I dont know about the problem in the themes, i would install it from source becuase i have and i have yet to find a really big bug (yeah i know about the www.maxtor.com bug)

Interestingly enough, I was able to pull up www.maxtor.com. The site didn't display perfectly but it didn't crash Konqueror either.

I installed from rpms. Maybe that was my mistake.

*bump*

This is really a concern for me to, I'd like an answer on how to install KDE 3.0 on a Red Hat 7.2 system.

Following the KDE instructions, I'm getting the same errors as the above poster.

Here is an easy fix that should work every time:

goto ftp.kde.org and cd into your distro's folder and drag the entire "i386" (or i586) folder to your ~ directory.

Now drop to console mode and do this:

cd /i386
rpm -Uvh *.rpm --nodeps --replacefiles --replacepkgs

hope this helps RedHat/Mandrake users.

Oh by the way. Normally you wouldn't use --nodeps option but this is the special case becuase you are going to be sure all the deps are going to be satified (its all in the i386 folder).

I have a question about this method...

Will this method install all of the international rpms?

If I delete all of the international rpms from the i386 directory, before running this command, will everything still work ok?

[root@linux kdei386]# rpm -Uvh *.rpm --nodeps --replacefiles --replacepkgs
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package cervisia-1.4.1-2 (which is newer than cervisia-3.0.0-2) is already installed
[root@linux kdei386]#

Is the above msg right after i run the command?
If here can u guys tell me how to use kde3.0 after this?
Cos after i reboot the system i got to control panel > help > About KDE
It still stated kde2.2.2 over there..

Pls advise

Sifvion, I ran into the same problem.

I just deleted the cervisia rpm from the i386 directory, and I uninstalled cervisia from my system by typing rpm -e cervisia*

Then I re-ran the install and everything worked fine.
