Question John the ripper install problems help?


Im currently udertakeing a lil project to secure my linux box im runing Slackware 8.0 and as part of my makeing my box more secure im checking for weak passwds wit john pw cracker.... but im haveing some problems unpakageing the prog?

iv used this commands lot of times then it work b4 not sure why it not working now

tar xzvf john-1.6.tar.gz

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors???

so if someone tell me what the correct commanline to unpakege this prog and how to install it i would realy apresheaight it

ps: im still i newbie and and i dont know how unpkg all prog tags so wat man's should i read

Run "file" on it and make sure it really is a gzip'd tar archive.

try " tar xvf john-1.6.tar.gz"

if there is an unexpected end, usually it means the package is corrupted. try downloading it again.
