is it a reiser 4 issue?????

I would'nt call myself an expert neither would u call myself a newbie. somewhere in the middle. i run now the 3rd LFS system i have done.
This time, for the first time, i run it on reiser4.
I have problem with firefox and xmms mainly, firefox will hang, so will xmms.
firefox run fasterfox within RFC SPEC. xmms play from an nfs mounted dir.
i have never had this problem before, i ran suse 9.3 slack 9.1 and 2 LFS before that. all but slack was on reiserfs.
Now im windering if this would be a reiser4 fs somewhat issue cause i know it is still somewhat a beta. or more than likely something in my system (because i did make this one fairly customize for me) in which case what might cause something like this to append???
firefox (current version ithink 1.6 or close by) is installed in my home dir.
xmms is installed system wide.

Firefox will hang while loading a page (could be fasterfox but i have ran this extansion on all system before, also started from a custom configuration to go within RFC SPEC).

Xmms will hang while switching song if if go too fast (it seems) never had this problem before. and also there is 2 other system on the network that play musik in the same cicumstance without any problem for over a year now.

any thought on this is more than welcome.
My system is gearing toward fast and secure network operation.

Couple of things:

1) Check the output of dmesg, maybe there's a physical problem
that could be reflected in the kernels ring-buffer.

2) I'd also suggest to run either of the processes with strace
and see what it has to say about your "hangs"...

strace -o xmms_trace.txt xmms

Cheers,
Tink

there is something in dmesg that i have never seen before.
"no more mtrr available"
I will google around and see what i can find.
Well first im going to find out what mtrr are.

i have followed your advise with strace. It took a while and i ended up with fairly large file. i will go trough them shortly.

I figured out for firefox, after all it was fasterfox. for some reason it does not work very good on my system.
but for xmms, i dunno...
i think ill just reinstall the nfs pkg and see.
