Hi Bhusal
General advice regarding Linux and Modems
- The typical modem in many peoples desktop computer is an Internal PCI Software modem - these modems require software to emulate what the hardware modems do naturally - because of market share etc most manufacturers only create Windows drivers for these popular modems - you can get Linux drivers for some of these modems but they are few and far between and still present configuration problems.
- The best option for getting your Linux distribution on the internet is to use an External Serial modem - these are easy to configure
The modem you use under Windows is probably a PCI Software modem - when you installed it you probably installed some drivers to enbale Windows to communicate with it.
As I said before, getting the right Linux driver for these modems is not easy and even if you do there still can be problems.
Your safest bet would be any external serial modem.
