trying to install ximian gnome from the net or locally i instantly get:
ERROR: Unable to resolve the server. Please ensure that your network connection.....
i've got all the files locally:
[root@trevor pub]# ls
distro.xml install.xml installer-rpm-glibc2.2-i386* installset.xml rc-installer/ ximian-gnome/
[root@trevor pub]# ls ximian-gnome/
mandrake-80-i586/
your luckier than me. I tried ximian and when I finally got it to install and went to reboot it would not start. it said "the path to the unix font is not correct". and would not even go into terminal. it just stopped about half way through the boot posts.
I had the same problem as you in the begining, it is the redcarpet update program.
Ithe way I got around it was do the minamal install at first then dont reboot (cause of the font problem" then go back and do the second option. I forget what it is then so on from there.
any way I talked to ximian they told me if I buy the package and they would be happy to help with my problem. :-(.
so there you go. thats my knowledge of the ximixn desktop.
I had the same problem. I tred everything to get it to install from local media. The last thing I tried was to run the installer and strart from the begining. I told the installer to install from the Ximian site and it detected the files in my /var dir and used them.
Had the same problem on Red Hat 7.2. I let the installer go online for one file, found it was storing the downloaded files in:
/var/cache/redcarpet/packages
so I moved all of my files in there, reran the online installer and at the first file it asked me if I wanted to keep the local copy (and an option to do it for all it found).
This worked to get it installed without downloading everything again.
